Røros World Heritage Site

333 years of mining activity on the mountain slopes of Røros created wealth for the owners and the State, a livelihood for the workers and a world heritage site for posterity.

Visit the World Heritage Site
Almost a million people visit Røros every year. Røros is well equipped to welcome visitors and there is much to experience.
What is World Heritage?
In 1972 UNESCO, the United Nations’ organisation for education, science, culture and communication ratified a convention for the preservation of world culture and natural heritage.

Røros was added to UNESCOs of World Heritage Sites in 1980, refer also to Riksantikvaren, ( Norwegian Inspectorate of Ancient Monuments and Historic Buildings).
